Date(s): 6-10 September 2004 Location: Woodmead, Johannesburg, South Africa Presenter: Ed Martin A Word from the Presenter Recently I had the opportunity to conduct Strand7 training in South Africa for a group of enthusiastic Strand7 users. This intensive 5 day course was broken down into 9 modules with some engineers attending all modules and others selectively attending the ones of interest. Days 1 and 2 concentrated on essentials, including mastering the Strand7 interface, running various analyses and reporting on results. Strand7's automeshing capabilities were explored also in Day 2. The afternoon sessions concentrated on heat transfer analysis and laminated composites. Day 3 tackled structural engineering related problems including advanced load applications and membrane structures. The afternoon session focused on weld fatigue assessment. Day 4 focused on buckling and advanced nonlinear analysis including material geometric and boundary nonlinear problems. In the afternoon, attendees were to able to develop their own program to interface to Strand7, providing new functionality using the Strand7 API. The final day explored dynamics including earthquake analysis, followed by a presentation and user group wrap up in the afternoon. I'd like to thank all attendees, I enjoyed the opportunity to meet them in South Africa. Thanks to course organiser (and Strand7 distributor in South Africa) Allyson Lawless and Hatch South Africa for providing the training venue. Ed Martin. Testimonials I was very impressed with the training. Edmund knows the program "through and through" and there wasn't a question he couldn't answer. Although I already knew Strand7, the "Essentials" module helped a lot. I am now aware of a lot more functions in Strand7 and can also get things done faster. I would have really liked to have done the "Structural Analysis" module as well, but it was already full. Luckily we analysed a six story building in the "Essentials" module, so I got the exposure to the things I really wanted to learn about. As for the "Laminates" module, it was very interesting but I don't believe we will use it. What was of worth to me in that module was the training done in "Geometry", something I have previously not done. The "Automeshing" was also very good. It is a very powerful tool and I would never have managed to use it without the exposure I got in "Geometry". It was a privilege to go on the training. Christo Croeser In my opinion, the course was a great success. Edmund presented it very well and I hope he will come again soon. He showed all the new functions of Strand7 very well. Thank you very much for the effort, I really enjoyed it. Wynand Muller The sections I attended, I found them well presented, the presenter was well spoken and came across very clear and explained the modules very well. Excellent overall. Thanks for arranging for me to be on course. Silvana Lo Drago Point 1 to 5: 1 Bad and 5 Good
I can confidently say that it was the best technical course that I have ever attended. The course notes are very well structured and presented and the software speaks for itself. The course is excellent for the following reasons :-
Stephen Ritchie I only attended the API session and found it extremely interesting. This functionality certainly allows for an increase in productivity and can be of great advantage to users. I would have loved to attend the whole week. Grant Willemse Top of Page |
