ST7-1.57.40.5 Transverse Shear Stress in Plate Elements
Transverse shear refers to the internal shearing force that develops on a plane perpendicular to the plate surface, due to out-of-plane loading on the plate (e.g. a plate with normal pressure). It is analogous to the shear force found in beam elements loaded in bending. A scissor cutting through paper is an extreme example of transverse shearing action on the paper.
