Edge Attributes: Shear Stress

Description

Assigns edge shear stress to selected geometry edges.

When the geometry is automeshed, plates created along the geometry edge will inherit the edge shear stress attribute (see Plate Attributes: Edge Shear Stress).

The shear stress acts in the plane of the plate in the direction along the edge. A positive shear stress acts in the direction that follows the local node numbering order on the plate. For example, a positive edge shear on edge 2 of a plate acts in the direction of nodes 2 to 3.

The magnitude of the resultant force is equal to shear stress × edge length × membrane (or equivalent) thickness.

Shear stress attributes are load case dependent.
