Beam Cross Section Types

Straus7 supports all beam cross section types specified by the Table: "FRAME SECTION PROPERTIES 1 - GENERAL". The SAP2000 section types are assigned equivalent Straus7 beam sections as follows:

SAP2000 Section Type Straus7 Shape Selection

Note that the orientation of the Straus7 Beam Elements: Local and Principal Axes and SAP2000 local axes are not the same for SAP2000 sections ANGLE and DOUBLE ANGLE. For section ANGLE, the SAP2000 local 2 axis is coincident with the Straus7 local y-axis. For section DOUBLE ANGLE, the SAP2000 local 2 axis is rotated 180 degrees from the Straus7 principal 2 axis.

Beam Connection and Point Contact Types

Straus7 supports various SAP2000 link types specified by the link property definition tables. The SAP2000 link types are assigned the closest equivalent Straus7 connection and point contact types:

Straus7 assigns nonlinear force-displacement or moment-rotation data for the MULTILINEAR and PLASTIC (KINEMATIC) link types to the Connection type beams. Straus7 posts these Force vs Displacement and Moment vs Rotation tables with the default title "Link Property Name", where Link Property Name refers to the name of the link property. For example, the third force-displacement table associated with the Connection type beam property LINK PROPERTY 5 would result in a Force vs Displacement table with the following title: "LINK PROPERTY 5 2"

SAP2000 uses Table: "AREA SECTION ASSIGNMENTS" to associate area section properties with a specified area. Straus7 posts these area section properties as plate properties.

SAP2000 uses Table: "AREA LOCAL AXES ASSIGNMENTS 1 - TYPICAL" and Table: "AREA LOCAL AXES ASSIGNMENTS 2 - ADVANCED" to define area local axes. Straus7 uses these area local axes to define the local axes orientation for a plate.

Brick Properties

SAP2000 uses Table: "SOLID SECTION PROPERTIES" to associate material properties with a solid property. Straus7 uses the solid property definition in association with a solid property assignment to define brick properties.

SAP2000 uses Table: "SOLID SECTION ASSIGNMENTS" to associate solid properties with a specified solid. Straus7 uses the solid property assignment in association with a solid property definition to define brick properties.

SAP2000 uses Table: "SOLID LOCAL AXES ASSIGNMENTS 1 - TYPICAL" and Table: "SOLID LOCAL AXES ASSIGNMENTS 2 - ADVANCED" to define the solid local axes. Straus7 uses these solid local axes to define the local axes orientation for a brick.
