Edge Attributes: Release

Description

Assigns releases to selected geometry edges.

When the geometry is automeshed, plates created along the geometry edge will inherit the edge release attribute (see Plate Attributes: Edge Release).

Edge release attributes remove the rotational stiffness about the edge, resulting in a hinge connection.

Edge release attributes are independent of load and freedom cases.

Notes

In Case A (below, left), two Quad elements (3 and 5) share a common node, and both elements are released. Therefore, the entire edge is fully released.

In Case B (below, right), three Tri elements (6, 7 and 10) share a common node but only two of them (6 and 10) are edge released. Due to the unreleased corner of element 7, the common node will have a non-zero rotational stiffness about the released axis, and hence it will carry a moment.
